How to build a hard-working wardrobe for autumn, inspired by Fred Sirieix

Take it from Fred. A busy autumn calls for a versatile wardrobe.

Words: T.MacInnis

Dressing for autumn is all about clothes that feel great and fit well. That means high-quality staples you can mix and match, that’ll take you from work to the weekend, or wherever you’re headed.

“I’m working flat out until December, up and down and in and out of the country. For that busy schedule, I want to feel comfortable and confident no matter the setting.

I’m also looking for quality, and after working in Michelin-starred restaurants, I know – and care – about quality. With Italian-milled fabric, Spanish leather, and British tweed, crafted with the tailoring expertise Moss is known for, we’ve taken this autumn/winter collection to a whole new level.

This collection is ideal if you want to create a considered capsule wardrobe, with a few special, stand-out pieces mixed in. The perfect fit for you, for your wardrobe and for whatever comes your way this season.”

Autumn-ready layers

When it comes to layering, nothing works harder in transitional seasons than a gilet. This autumn/winter, our navy gilet is padded enough for just the right amount of added warmth, and lightweight enough to wear under or over pretty much anything. For a smart-casual look, try styling it underneath a checked suit, and for those off-duty days, wear it over a merino roll-neck jumper in a tonal hue.

Quality, wear-everywhere knitwear

Knitwear is one of the best things about colder months. It’s cosy, versatile, and adding just one or two new pieces to last year’s wardrobe can instantly update it. This navy polo neck, made with merino wool, is one we know you’ll reach for again and again. Not only is it super soft and lightweight, but it’ll keep up with you throughout the week. Wear it on its own with a pair of chinos, or layer it under a flannel blazer for another smart-casual look.

Autumn weekend warriors

With the best autumn pieces, you’ll get that ideal combo of form and function, so you’ll both look and feel great. That means you can put together loads of outfits that are perfect for whatever you’ve got on at the weekend. Our chunky cable roll-neck jumper is a great example. It’s made with temperature-regulating lambswool blended with shape-retaining fibres, so it’ll bounce back, season after season. Then, this fig overshirt and jogger set is like elevated, autumn-ready sweats. Reach for it when you’re headed somewhere laid back, like a Sunday roast or a game night.

Whatever pieces you decide to add to your wardrobe this fall, follow Fred’s lead and choose them for both quality and versatility. Hitting both those marks means you’ll want to wear them again and again, and not just this year.
